One of the most common questions in poker is what percentage of hands should I be playing? Unfortunately there is no right or wrong answer.
As there is no real answer to this question, this is more of a suggestion. If you study poker, gain experience playing poker and work hard on your game, you will find the level of play that is right for you and your percentage of playable hands. It is generally thought that at a table of 10 players, you should be playing about 10-15% of hands. At 6-handed tables, that percentage will obviously come up a little.
In tournament play, the percentage should start small and gradually get higher as the game progresses. Start tight and become more aggressive as the tourney progresses. It is very common to have figures around 17-23% throughout a tourney, but it really does depend on a multitude of factors.
Poker is such a dynamic game that the percentage could drop to under 10% or shoot above 30% quite easily, simply due to the nature of the table you are sitting at, or a fantastic/terrible run of cards.
What you should definitely aim for is to enter as many pots as you can as the aggressor rather than the caller. By limiting the amount of times you enter a pot as a caller, you can tighten up your game and make more money.
